New feature for verifying Certificates of Good Standing on Labor website

The CNMI Department of Labor is proud to announce the launch of a new feature on its website, labor.cnmi.gov, designed to enhance transparency and ease of access for businesses and stakeholders. This innovative feature provides a comprehensive list of all businesses that have applied for a Certificate of Good Standing in the CNMI.

A Certificate of Good Standing is an important document that signifies a business has no pending labor or compliance agency cases against the organization. Additionally, it confirms that the business is in compliance with key labor regulations and requirements such as submission of the quarterly Workforce Census and meeting the 30% workforce participation objective, submission of the annual Workforce Plan, and CNMI Tax and Revenue obligations, including the Business Gross Revenue Tax and employee withholding tax. While this certificate is often used to apply for federal contracts, it is important to note that it is not a requirement for the CW application by USCIS.

The Certificate of Good Standing list can be found under the Resources tab in the Forms and Publications section, under Agency Presentations and Reports titled “Certificate of Good Standing Request list.” It is important to note that only businesses that requested this certificate are listed. This public listing will serve as a valuable resource for any entity needing to verify the authenticity of a Certificate of Good Standing.

In response to instances of certificate forgery, this initiative ensures the integrity and trustworthiness of businesses operating within the CNMI. The list is updated regularly, allowing for real-time verification. Furthermore, all future Certificates of Good Standing will include a QR code that directs users to the webpage, facilitating easy verification.

The Certificate of Good Standing request form is now also available online. Interested business applicants can find the form on our new web page. Simply go to the Divisions and Programs drop-down menu and choose the Administrative Services page. Click on the “Request for Certificate of Good Standing,” and a form will pop up. Fill out all parts of the form, upload all required documents, and submit. A voucher will be sent via email. Present and pay the voucher at the CNMI Treasury. (There is no online payment option available at this time.) After payment, go back to the voucher email and send the receipt of payment from the CNMI Treasury.

Please note that processing time begins once the DOL staff acknowledges receipt of payment via email confirmation.

These developments are part of the DOL’s ongoing efforts to improve digital access to information and uphold the integrity of compliant businesses in the CNMI. We are committed to making it more difficult for fraudulent activities to thrive, thus protecting the interests of legitimate businesses.
