Anson, Cartfield are Master’s MVPs

Anson Jones and Cartfield Sablan were named the most valuable players of the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association masters division last Sunday in their awards ceremony yesterday at the Dandan Softball Field.

Jones of the championship team Asahi, claimed the finals MVP award after going two for three in game one, with three RBIs on a single and a double. While in the second game, he added two homers, three more RBIs, and one single in his three-for-five MVP stint.

For Sablan of Peliliu, he was named the regular season MVP and Batting Champion after he wrapped it up with a .684 average from 39 hits out of 57 at-bats.

Forty-year-old Jones kept up with his family’s synonymous ring with bat and ball sports this year as he made a comeback. He said after a 20-year hiatus that led to an MVP run, “It feels good to play with the team in my first year back.”

In other individual awards, Peliliu’s John Terlaje was had the most runs scored with 34; Wazzup’s Joe Lizama and Asahi’s John Taitano were tied as Doubles champions with 10 each; Tokahao’s Clint Quitugua and Asahi’s Suo Matsutaro were tied as Triples champions at four each; Sufa’s Audie Maratita and Man Amigos’ Manny Sablan were the power hitters of the season as they won the Home Run award with 13 each; Maratita then claimed the RBI award with 44.

On the bump, Hagu Lamun pitcher Opong Celis was the Earned Run Average champion with the league’s lowest ERA at 6.567, while Saipal’s Leo Bobai was the Strikeout king with 43.

Asahi won the championship over runner-up team Sufa. The Sportsmanship Award went to Tuturamz. In the regular season, the pennant winner was also Asahi, while the runner-up was Hagu La’mun, and third place was Sufa.
