DPS shares route, road closure for LibDay Parade
In anticipation of the 78th Liberation Day Parade on Thursday, July 4, 2024, the CNMI Department of Public Safety has issued information regarding the parade route and road closures in a press release yesterday.
With the Liberation Day parade kicking off at 10am with a flyover by the U.S. Air Force, assistant chief of police and acting public information officer Simon Manacop shared that DPS wanted to share the following essential details for motorists and parade attendees.
Parade route
Concerning the parade route, DPS shared that the parade will start on Beach Road Illiyan in front of National Office Supply and will conclude on Beach Road Garapan by the grand stand, just south of the Garapan Fishing Base by the Garapan Public Market.
Road closures
The intersection of Chalan Lau Lau Quartermaster traffic light to Beach Road Illiyan in front of National Office Supply will be closed starting at 7am to accommodate the parade lineup. Beach Road, from Chalan Lau Lau Quartermaster to Beach Road Garapan by Dama Di Noche Street, will be completely shut to the public beginning at 9am.
“Motorists are also asked to minimize travel along Beach Road Chalan Lau Lau by Atkins Kroll north to Quartermaster traffic signal light intersection,” said Manacop in the press release.
For further inquiries, community members may contact DPS Lt. Daniel Smith of the Highway Patrol Section at (670) 664-9085.

Representing the CNMI’s multicultural heritage, various cultural offices banded together to create a float that encompasses the different indigenous cultures in the CNMI during the annual Liberation Day parade last year. For the Chamorro culture, the group featured a replica of the original Chamorro canoe seemingly sailing in the ocean.
