Lt. Col. Edward C. Camacho retires

Lt. Col. Edward C. Camacho, who served in the US Army for 43 years, retired last June 26.

Camacho, 62 years old, was born and raised on Saipan. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 18, as an Army Reserve soldier, in December 1980.

He started out as a private first class with the 368th Military Police Company in Guam. n May 1984, he was promoted to second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry after receiving a commission from the University of Guam Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.

He is currently taking a vacation in Asia and around the Pacific. In an interview with Saipan Tribune, he was asked what’s his most memorable moments and assignments when he was in the Army.

“All of my assignments with troops are very memorable and rejuvenating! My assignment in Jerusalem was probably one of the most important due to the nature of my job there,” he said.

Camacho has served in various locations including the Korean DMZ, Camp Casey and Hovey, Korea, Fort Drum, NY, LSA Anaconda/Joint Air Base Ballad, Iraq, Yongsan, Korea, Guam, Camp Zama, Japan, Fort Hood, TX, Camp Kalsu, Iraq, Camp Buehring, Kuwait, Fort Shafter, HI, Hofuf in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem and the West Bank in Israel and Palestine, Vicenza, Italy, and Okinawa, Japan.

He added that he intends to spend more time with his family, particularly his grandchildren after retirement.

“There are still so many things I can do to serve in a different capacity, and which ever one I get to do next I’m going to make sure that I have time for my family as much as possible.”

Camacho also once served as the CNMI’s DPS commissioner. On June 26, 2024 Camacho was awarded the Order of Saint Maurice, Centurion and the Meritorious Service Medal for his 40 years of service as an Infantry officer.

His family wants to extend their heartfelt congratulations to Camacho for finally retiring after 43 years of loyal service in the United States Army.
