‘Hollywood,’ TJ top respective divisions
Christian “Hollywood” Camacho and T.J. Ferrer won their respective divisions in last Sunday’s 2024 “MOTO IV” Points Race Series at the Cowtown Race Park in Marpi.
Camacho topped his usual bailiwick—the Big Boy ATV Class—with another perfect run after winning both heats for 50 points. Greg Clark was second with 44 points, while Camacho’s father, Henry Sr., finished third with 40 points
“The weather was a little rain here in there in the morning and stopped before noon. The track was slippery and muddy with puddles in certain areas, but it wasn’t a problem for me as I like racing in the mud,” said the younger Camacho about last Sunday’s racing conditions.
He said the Dr. Jekyll-and-Mr. Hyde conditions of the Marianas Racing Association track last Sunday, in a way, offered some comic relief for riders and watchers alike.
“The first heat was a bit of laugher as we watched riders struggle getting out of the berms, even going down because of the thick mud. On the second heat, the track was perfect as the mud had dried a bit and became tacky. It was a good race overall for everyone and something different instead of dust. I dedicate this win to my beautiful wife, my mom, and dad for always supporting and encouraging me to push myself. I’d like to thank the MRA board members and sponsors for their continuous support and dedication on holding another successful race day for all the racers and families,” said Camacho.
Ferrer, meanwhile, lorded it over in the Mini II Class after winning a two-horse raise against Calix Cruz. The former won both heats for 50 points, while Cruz had 44 points.
“It was an amazing win and it was pretty hard most of the time due to the track conditions, but yes it was a good and fun race. The course was wet and muddy especially in the first heat and the weather was really rainy. Thank God the rain stopped in the second heat and the track was just perfect.”
The 13-year-old Tanapag Middle School student then thanked his family and Trench Tech Racing Team for their support and MRA president Ellery Cruz for his coaching.
In the Mini ATV Class, Payton Pangelinan beat Nakoa Torres in both heats for 50 points. Torres wound up with 44 points.
MRA president Ellery Cruz, meanwhile, thanked MRA members and their families for continuing to show up and show out in every weather condition at the Cowtown Race Park.
“Sunday’s race saw rainy and muddy conditions for Heat 1 and then the sun came out enough to help get the track dry enough to give a perfect tacky condition for great racing in the second heat. We also want to thank the fans that came out to cheer us on, you guys are awesome. MRA would also like to thank IT&E and Monster Energy for sponsoring our event.”
He added that the 2024 season is coming to a near close with two races left scheduled to take place on Aug. 4 and 25.
“We invite the entire public to come out and watch our riders battle it out to garner their final points and see who comes out victorious for the 2024 points race season,” he said.
Results of the other classes will be published in the next issues of Saipan Tribune.
