Guerrero finally hits paydirt in Novice Class

After several runner-up finishes, Matthew Guerrero finally took the checkered flag of the Novice Class in the June 2024 “MOTO IV” Points Race Series last Sunday at the Cowtown Race Park in Marpi.

The 14-year-old Mt. Carmel School student won both heats for a perfect 50 points, while three-time monthly champion Christian Camacho came in second this time with 44 points. Frankie Sablan completed the Top 3 with 38 points.

“The weather was hot and sunny and the course was dry,” said Guerrero who rode his 2023 Yamaha Yz250f to victory.

Guerrero then dedicated his win to ERICCO Racing Team coach Ellery Cruz, who got him interested in motocross, YCO True Value, Inas Kitchen, Rep. Manny Castro (Ind-Saipan), and his family for “all their support and everything they’ve done for me.”

As for what led him to pursue motocross, he said, “I saw my friends participating in the sport and it looked fun to me which attracted me to start riding and having fun.”

Guerrero said he hopes motocross would help him become a more well-rounded individual. “What I want to achieve in the sport is improve my mental toughness and physical fitness.”

In the Peewee ATV Class of the Marianas Racing Association race, Ayven Sablan was the lone rider and got 50 points, while Annela Igitol topped the Mini ATV with also a perfect run with 50 points. Payton Pangelinan and Nakoa Torres finished second and third with 44 points and 40 points, respectively.
