Islander Rent A Car, Yuman undefeated

Islander Rent A Car and GMP x Yuman are both undefeated with identical 4-0 win-loss records in the Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League 2024 after their games at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium last Sunday.

The Islander Rent A Car team barely escaped the clutches of Savemore, 70-68.

It was a close game in the end, but Islander Rent A Car’s Frank Ferrer opened the game with 5 quick points. He stayed hot and went on to score more and was complemented by teammate Webb Gontar, who also attacked the basket with aggressiveness.

Nikko Mejarito joined in on the mix and fired three back-to-back points as Savemore tried to play catchup.

Islander Rent A Car had a good enough lead at the half, 40-32. However, Savemore served up some points as they were led by Daryll Foronda and Alex Lauron.

Toward the end though, it all boiled down to crucial plays at the free throw line, with Islander Rent A Car’s Ferrer solidifying himself the hero with two straight baskets for just a 2-point lead, 70-68.

Ferrer put up the most markers for Islander Rent A Car at 17, while Gontar and Mejarito mirrored each other at 13 points.

For Savemore, Foronda and Lauron both put up twin 20 points and carried the team on their shoulders, while Mark Malinay scored nine and Kristian David put up seven.

In GMP x Yuman’s game that morning, they deconstructed Jacob’s Bakeshop, 91-73. In other results, Star Water drowned Saipan Tigers, 70-65, and Team Underground crushed Triskelion, 81-73.

In the standings behind Yuman and Islander Rent A Car are Savemore, Team Underground, and Star Water at 2-2 each. Saipan Tigers and Jacob’s Bakeshop have a 1-3 record, while Triskelion have yet to win at four losses.

Meanwhile, in the concurrent Destroyers Friendly Games League 2024 also played at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium, Vizion Insurance and Bio Pro will go head-to-head in the finals this Sunday, July 28, at 5pm.
