Islander Rent A Car, Yuman still unbeaten

Islander Rent A Car and GMP x Yuman are still firing on all cylinders as they remain unbeaten in the Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League 2024 after their games at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium last Sunday.

Islander Rent A Car drove past Jacob’s Bakeshop, 84-71, while Yuman overpowered Star Water, 127-95, for their fifth straight win of the season.

Islander Rent A Car’s powerful starting five led the team to a huge 16-point deficit by the end of the first half, 50-34. Paolo Yanto’s accuracy and dominating performance on the court allowed him to secure 15 points in the first half alone—after back-to-back threes and free throws.

Teammate Frank Ferrer then took the wheel in the second half and directed the flow of points from the 3-point line with two 3-pointers—for a total of four downtown in the game. Jerome Directo got in on the action and navigated within the paint through Jacob’s Bakeshop’s defenses.

Jacob’s Bakeshop tried to halt Islander Rent A Car’s momentum in the second half, but it was too little, too late. All they could do was play catch up and their lead scorers, Emman Bondad, Mark Aycardo, and Gab De Guzman made a push to add more points on the scoreboard.

However, Islander Rent A Car’s defenses held and with additional points from their bench and their top three shooters, drove away with their fifth straight win, 84-71.

Yanto powered Islander Rent A Car to victory with 21 points, while Ferrer backed him up with 13, and Directo added 11.

Jacob’s Bakeshop’s Bondad led the team with 19 points, while Aycardo put up 17 markers, and De Guzman shot 14.

In other results that day, Saipan Tiger roared past Triskelion, 86-74; GMP x Yuman climbed on top of Team Underground, 105-94.
