Int’l Day of University Sport tomorrow
Kickstart your weekend on a healthy note by getting your body moving in the 5th Annual International Day of University Sport hosted by Northern Mariana Islands College Sports tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 20 at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field from 4pm to 7pm.
NMICS will be joined by sports organizations such as NMC Volleyball Club, the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, and Ultimate Frisbee.
“Our IDUS celebration will highlight the importance of an active lifestyle and encourage everyone to bring their families and friends to have fun and play sports. Participants will also get the chance to win raffle prizes such as sporting equipment, Yeti bottles, go kart gift certificates, and many more,” said Angela Bernal, the event’s organizer.
When asked if the weather will be an issue, she said, “Our event will push through rain or shine. However, if extreme weather such as strong winds and heavy rain occurs on the day of the event, we will notify the community of any changes.”
The annual celebration, which started in 2016, is the brainchild of FISU Oceania and endorsed by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization to promote sports, health and wellness, and community engagement among college students and other stakeholders.
FISU Oceania has 12 member countries known as National University Sport Federations.
Each federation differs in size, structure and resources, which include the NMI, American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guam, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa.
