Garapan Street Market temporarily relocates
A week after it returned, the Garapan Street Market will temporarily move from the Paseo De Marianas strip to Coral Tree Avenue starting this week due to ongoing construction, according to the Commonwealth Council for Arts & Culture.
During its soft opening last Aug. 29, a total of four vendors—Changi Nori Kitchen, Chow Time, Kanto 10, and Kingfisher’s Noni—were able to serve delicious food for the Thursday 5:30pm-10pm nighttime activity that also showcases cultural performances and shopping opportunities.
CCAC director Gloriana Teuira said the initial plan was to start the Garapan Street Market in the first week of August. However, it was delayed due to various factors including the identification of a permanent spot for the event’s power panels.
She said despite the short notice, they were able to secure vendors, deviating from the usual 2-3 months preparation time for an undertaking as big as the return of the Garapan Street Market.
Teuira said CCAC first received 11 applicants, but they had to meet specific requirements such as add-ons to their business license and necessary permits such as sanitary permits and food handlers.
While CCAC originally aimed for six vendors, they eventually settled for four to enable them to adhere to the fire code safety requirement, which is 12 feet apart for vendors at the Paseo De Marianas strip.
Meanwhile, Tupu Cane Juice general manager Cameron Atalig, whose business is located at Paseo De Marianas, said they experienced a noticeable boost in sales due to the return of the Garapan Street Market last week.
“We not only extended our hours but also debuted our new menu. It was a great way to connect with the community and invite them to sip nature’s energy with us,” said Atalig.
Meanwhile, the Garapan Street Market’s second week since its return tonight will feature the following entertainment: Revolutionary at 6pm, Tahiti Nui at 6:45 pm, Ghasias Band at 7:45 pm, and Pacifica Dancers at 8:30pm.
