Tropical Storm Condition 3 declared for Pagan, Alamagan, Agrihan

As of 9:30am, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, in consultation with the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office, has declared Tropical Storm Condition III for Pagan, Alamagan, and Agrihan.

Tropical Storm Condition III means tropical storm-force winds of at least 39 MPH are expected within 24 hours.

Earlier this morning, National Weather Service-Guam issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the islands of Pagan, Alamagan, and Agrihan. A tropical storm warning means tropical storm force winds of at least 39 mph are expected within 24 hours.

Tropical Depression 19W is moving north-northwest at 8 MPH. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the northwest with a slight increase in forward speed through Saturday. This current forecast track sends 19W very close to Pagan over the next few hours, before moving away to the northwest.

Maximum sustained winds remain at 35 MPH. 19W is forecasted to intensify through tonight possibly becoming a Tropical Storm. 19W will continue to slowly intensify as it moves northwest and away from the Marianas. Residents of the CNMI are advised to continue to monitor official weather sources for the storm’s forecasted impact to other islands.

Again, this is an evolving situation—the direction, speed, intensification rate, and other attributes of the storm may change over the next few hours. The CNMI Office of the Governor and CNMI HSEM will be monitoring the movement of the storm, continue to consult with the National Weather Service and other agencies, and continue to provide updates when available and when appropriate.
