Former CPA board chair Ayuyu resigns
The Office of the Governor has received the resignation letter of former Commonwealth Ports Authority board chair Joe Ayuyu. However, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has yet to issue an official statement regarding Ayuyu’s resignation as this leaves the board with a vacancy that he must fill.
Ayuyu, who gave up his chairmanship last month following an election of officers, has officially submitted his letter of resignation ultimately vacating his seat on the CPA board.
Saipan Tribune learned that the resignation letter sits at the Office of the Governor.
Saipan Tribune also tried to get a comment from Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, as he will have to appoint another in Ayuyu’s place, but he was unable to provide a statement as of press time.
Meanwhile, when asked for a comment, CPA board chair Ramon Tebuteb said he has no comment.
According to Ayuyu’s letter, the main reason for his resignation is that because there are people on the board appointed by the previous administration, the board would not see eye to eye from time to time.
Ayuyu further explained that he needed a team that would work with him to implement what is necessary so that CPA could help grow the islands’ tourism-based economy.
Unfortunately, that was not the case, Ayuyu explained.
However, Ayuyu still thanked Palacios for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of the CNMI even for a while.
As board chair, one of the most notable actions taken by Ayuyu was paying off airport bonds worth nearly $6 million through Divert Airfield funds in order to lower landing fees for airline partners.
