Wettz douses 670 Babes, 15-3

Wettz doused 670 Babes, 15-3, to gain their second win in as many games in the Inaugural NMI Softball Women’s League 2024 last Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Softball Field in Susupe.

The Babes struck first with a run scored by Pauline Camacho in the first inning. They could’ve tacked on another run but left the runner stranded on base as the third out registered. In the second inning, there was not a peep from Wettz’ offense yet as they had only one hit in the first, while they went down in order in the second.

The Babes added another run in the third from Gloria Rogolifoi, but Wettz flipped the script and had some help from the Babes’ shoddy defense.

Eva Lizama started things off with a single, followed by another by C.J. Lizama. Then back-to-back errors on the field allowed two runs to score, plus three more runs to give Wettz the lead, 5-2.

There was no holding back from there with Wettz adding six more runs in the next inning. The Babes came up empty until the last inning when they added one, but it was too little too late after Wettz added four more for the 15-3 final.

In the first game of the day, Man Amigas also won their second win in as many games over Dirty Diamonds, 15-2.

The Dirty Diamonds got to work early from a single by Amy Cabrera and a double by Rachel Salalila. They both made their way home from Lizann Deleon Guerrero’s single for a 2-0 lead. But that was all the offense they provided in that game.

The Amigas retaliated right away in their at-bat as they scored four consecutive runs off of Jaylina Borja, Jahsmine Ramon, Anu Aldan, and Bex Repeki to overtake the lead, 4-2.

From there, Man Amigas’ pitching proceeded to shut down the Dirty Diamonds as their hurler Evita Maratita struck out the side in the second inning. She added three more strikeouts and allowed just two more hits and two walks.

Maratita was then backed up more by her offense as 11 runs scored in the third. The game was then called off on run-mercy ruling with a 15-2 final.

Then, the Batties doubled the Lady Blue Jays’ runs to win their first game, 6-3. No last names were provided for the Batties’ roster.

The Batties’ Angel led things off with an inside the park homer to get them on board first at the start of the game. Kona and Keina then added two in the third to lead, 3-0. Iggy then added one in the fourth for a 4-0 game.

The Lady Blue Jays’ Patty Mendiola and Kiana Camacho finally found home plate to cut the lead by two, 2-3 at the bottom of the fourth. But the Batties went on to score two more runs in the fifth, while the Lady Blue Jays bats produced just one more run at the bottom of the inning, for the eventual 3-6 final score.
