NMTech, lawmakers bring comfort to Guma Esperanza residents

For the fourth year in a row, and in the spirit of Thanksgiving the Northern Marianas Technical Institute and several lawmakers partnered to bring women and children at Karidat Services’ Guma Esperanza a hot Thanksgiving lunch last Tuesday.

NMTech Marketing and Outreach coordinator Aaron Tomokane shared that the gesture not only impacted those at the safe haven, but as per every year, being able to give back, touched those who participated in the donation, knowing especially that the recipients were survivors of domestic violence.

Tomokane said that this year, the NMTech culinary arts students and instructors worked tirelessly to prepare a feast fit for the occasion, with a menu featuring classic Thanksgiving staples such as hams, turkeys, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and sweet treats like pumpkin pies and cookies.

These efforts were bolstered by the unwavering support of members of 23rd Northern Marianas Legislature.

House Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez (Ind-Saipan), vice speaker Rep. Joel Camacho (Ind-Saipan), and Reps. Blas Jonathan “BJ” Attao (Ind-Saipan) and Ralph Yumul (Ind-Saipan) joined forces with NMTech to ensure the success of this initiative. Their collaboration underscores the community’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations through meaningful acts of kindness.

“As the tradition continues to grow each year, it serves as a reminder of the strength and compassion that defines our community,” said Tomokane, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project.

NMTech hopes the Thanksgiving meals not only fill the stomachs but also warmed hearts of the residents of Guma Esperanza, reminding them that they are supported, valued and never alone.

As the holiday season unfolds, initiatives like these serve as a poignant reminder of the power of unity in creating brighter days for the community, especially those who may be facing challenges this season.
