Decomposing body found on Thanksgiving Day

The Department of Public Safety confirmed rumors that a dead body was found at the Zen Apartments in Gualo Rai during Thanksgiving celebrations last Thursday.

Saipan Tribune learned from DPS assistant chief of police and acting public information officer Simon T. Manacop that the body of a 76-year-old Caucasian male was found in a state of decomposition last Thursday.

Manacop said that DPS received a call from the apartment’s maintenance staff around 10am on Thanksgiving Day. The staff informed officers that a foul odor had been coming out of the man’s room, which prompted their response. Upon investigation, DPS shared that the man was reportedly seen about four days before the discovery. Manacop said that as of now they are “unable to determine exactly how many days the man has been deceased except that he was last seen four days prior to being reported.”

He added that no foul play has been established

Manacop also said that they are still waiting on any word from the man’s family or next of kin.

In just the past six months, the body has been the third male individual reported to be decomposing near or at his residence.

Saipan Tribune asked DPS about these findings and whether or not there was an update that can be shared about the cases. “For other cases… all has been cleared by [the Attorney General’s Office] classified as natural deaths,” he said
