Former Tinian cop in ‘ice’ case freed from supervised release

U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona ordered yesterday that Gilbert S. N. Macaranas—a former Tinian police officer who served a six-month prison term for distributing methamphetamine or “ice”—be discharged from supervised release.

Manglona also terminated the proceedings in Macaranas’ case after the U.S. Probation Office reported that the defendant has complied with the conditions of his supervised release.

Macaranas’ supervised release expired on June 1, 2014. U.S. Probation Officer Melinda B. Santos recommended to the court that the defendant be discharged.

On Dec. 7, 2010, U.S. District Court for the NMI designated Judge WM. Fremming Neilsen slapped Macaranas with a six-month prison term.

Neilsen ordered that after completing the prison term, Macaranas shall be placed on supervised release for three years.

The judge prohibited the former police officer from, among other things, gambling and playing at poker machines, during his probation.
