The Northern Marianas College board has suspended honorarium payment for its members.

The decision was relayed in a letter to Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio.

By law, board members are given honorarium for attending official meetings. Each member reportedly receives between $40 to $50 for each meeting.

Although the action does not realize substantial savings, Board Chairman Manuel Sablan said it reflects the board’s commitment to voluntary service.

He called on other agencies to follow suit.

The college has also instituted cost-cutting measures to live within the budget.
