The powers of the Yuletide Season
The rough sailing of the last year has been a challenge for most of us. Everybody gets a share of the ravaging assaults of the Asian crisis on the local economy. Indeed, against the tide of uncertainty and hardship, it is often hard braving the usual jovial spirit that is very much a part of the Yuletide Season.
Despair not for there’s a traditional and an unparalleled powerful reason for us to ring the bells of Christmas as loud as we can: The powers of the Yuletide Season, founded on the birth of our Savior and widely celebrated throughout the Christian world, will descend upon us this Christmas Eve.
Despair not for despite our collective tribulations, we have proven our resiliency in the face of adversity for more than four-hundred years. Our current experience isn’t the first such hardship and through it all we have emerged a much stronger people. For instance, we’ve seen and endured a change in our colonial rulers, the irreparable destruction of life and property during World War II, superstorms and earthquakes since time immemorial. We may have emerged wounded and scarred, but nevertheless we’ve survived it all.
Out in the distant horizon, there flickers some glimmer of hope that albeit difficult our sailing the current crisis, tough times will not last and we will outlast this adversity however slow, even faltering slow. We shall conquer it sooner than later. Our forefathers have proven it to us. Let us carry this torch of leadership, hope, resolve and vision to make these isles the paradise that it deserve.
As such, let the joy of the Holiday Season shine brightly in our hearts. Let its healing powers descend upon each of us when the King of kings arrives once more this Christmas Eve. In doing so, let us also remember in our thoughts and prayers those, throughout these isles, who have recently lost their loved ones.
