In a continuing effort to provide inmates, detainees and Correction officers with a safe environment, the Division of Corrections is implementing new policies that must be followed when visiting relatives in the facility.

The move was due to a recent inspection of DOC’s main facility where various contraband and weapons were confiscated.

Under the new policy, visitors are allowed to visit inmates between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays only and are allowed to stay for 30 minutes, unless a prior approval was granted by the DOC director.

A visitor is required to submit a visit request form for approval to the DOC director prior to the scheduled visit since visitor will only be allowed to visit inmate or detainee on the approved date and time.

No visitor will be allowed into the facility prior to visit request being approved. Unapproved visit may result in the director of DOC filing trespassing charges against unauthorized visitors.

All visitors will be subject to search prior to entering a secured portion of the facility.

To alleviate potential embarrassment on the part of the visitor, DOC advised the visitor to refrain from brining articles to the facility that might be considered contraband or weapons.

“Visiting inmates and or detainees is a privilege and may be denied or suspended if the director of Correction perceived a serious threat to the security of the correctional facility or to the individual inmate or detainee,” the policy said.

Inmates, detainees and visitors found in violation of DOC rules and regulations will be denied visiting privileges by the DOC director.
