Esther S. Fleming was voted yesterday as chairwoman of the Board of Education, replacing Marja Lee Taitano. Frances H. Diaz of Tinian is the new vice chairwoman.

“I promise to work with everyone. This is my last term and I will try to do my best,” Fleming said. She was elected to the board four years ago.

As the new head of the board, Fleming is called upon to pay attention on instruction. She led the committee on student affairs.

She believes that having enough rooms to accommodate the growing population will enhance learning.

Fleming, who considers herself an educator and a housewife, is not new to PSS. For 10 years, she was with the Department of Education (now PSS) as test coordinator. Before that, she taught at Tanapag Elementary School.

She is also the secretary to the board and chairman of curriculum for the Sister Remedios Pre-School.

Her civic affairs involvement included being a board member of Karidat.
