The jury selection for the murder trial of Gerald Sablan and Peter Cabrera started yesterday in Superior Court where a six-man jury will be selected over a pool of juror summoned by the court.

Superior Court Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan conducted the selection and reminded all prospective juror of the law that requires them to be fair and impartial.

In the following days, Assistant Attorney General Robert Steinborn will present witnesses and evidences to prove the government’s case while defense lawyer Antonio Atalig will prove his client’s innocence.

Sablan and Cabrera were charged with first degree murder, aggravated assault and battery and assault and battery.

They were the main suspects in the killing of 36-year-old Allan N. Obak in Nov. 28, 1997.

Obak’s body was found near the Saipan International Airport.

Court documents showed that Obak was assaulted and was hit by a piece of wood that resulted to his death.
