PSS gets lukewarm support for its dollar-contract
The dollar-contract of the Public School System designed to spell commitment for volunteer work from the community is off to a slow start.
Since its launching in December, only two community members have come forward to lend PSS their support with a dollar-contract.
“Many have mentioned their interest but this office has received at least two requests to process the dollar contract,” according to Human Resource Officer Charlie Kenty.
Former educators Paz Younis and Margaret dela Cruz are the first two volunteers who have finalized their commitment through the dollar-contract.
Commissioner of Education Rita H. Inos introduced this dollar-contract last December to invite volunteer work from the community since PSS is not in the position to hire additional people.
A person may agree to work for a month for only a dollar. But the contract will ensure PSS of the person’s commitment to work for that duration.
“We need to have people whom we can count on,” Kenty added. It also spells out the desired time and days which the volunteer will be able to work with PSS.
Acting principal Andie dela Cruz of the William S. Reyes is grateful to have Younis in her school. Since the school lost its counselor and principal last year, Younis is helping with the office chores.
Former Deputy Commissioner on Administration Margaret dela Cruz may opt to serve at PSS Central Office.
