PSS staff heads to schools
The Public School System has deployed some of its people from the central office to various schools which had the most number of retirements and separations.
People from the instruction department led the reinforcement team to schools like Hopwood, Marianas High School, Garapan, Gregorio T. Camacho and William S. Reyes.
“I was very confident on opening the school,” said Hopwood Principal Lourdes Mendiola.
Her school which opened last Monday welcomed Nick Sablan from the Instruction Department who teaches Math and Reading Specialist Mary Miller for English. Two staff members from the Board of Education and the Commissioner of Education’s offices are also helping the school administratively.
According to acting Associate Commissioner for Instruction Rita Sablan, technology specialists Mike Murphy and Phoebe McGinnis are now teaching Math and Computer at MHS.
Its principal Jim Denight said that MHS had no major problems when it opened last Monday which was a welcome development since it lost a number of its teachers last December.
Aside from this reinforcement from the central office, some teachers are also carrying extra load.
“They have taken added responsibility and I really commend their efforts, ” Mendiola said.
PSS had over 40 people who either retired or resigned effective last December. With its current budget, these vacancies will not be filled up while schools are expected to stay in operation for the rest of the year.
