Drive vs. child abuse focused in schools
This year’s campaign against child abuse and neglect in the CNMI is geared towards the schools in the promotion of healthy families and children.
In a presentation made yesterday during the principal’s meeting of the Public School System, Janice Sablan who spoke in behalf of the “For the Children” group has informed officials of the upcoming activities.
A penny drive will start in April to encourage school children help young victims of abuses who are seeking shelter in centers. The group is inviting schools to adopt the drive as a class project.
“Dear Mom, thanks for reading to me,” is one message which school children will write on grocery bags starting next month for the second campaign. Bags will be donated by Payless and Joeten supermarkets and after this school project they will be used to pack grocery goods.
The Division of Youth Services is also sponsoring a poster contest for pre-school, kindergarten to grade 2, grade 3 to 6, and junior high school. Winning entries will be featured in the year 2000 calendar of DYS.
The DYS formed the “For The Children” group last year to help the agency identify projects and activities in the promotion of healthy families and children.
