A weekend fishing trip off the eastern side of the Managaha Island left one dead after a raging wave overturned the boat.

The 42-year old Filipino was pronounced dead by his attending physicians at the Commonwealth Health Center at 2:30 PM, an hour after the call was made to the Department of Public Safety reporting about the incident.

According to the two survivors, after their 12-footer boat capsized, one was able to flag down a passing private boat. When they went back to help his other two companions, the victim was already missing.

After the two men were safely rushed to shore, the boat went back to search the missing person. The victim was immediately transported to CHC after he was found.

DPS spokesperson Rose Ada said the name is withheld until loved ones have been notified. Likewise, the Philippine Consulate here is still gathering information about the victim.

Meanwhile, Mr. Weng Cheng, who was reported missing as of Sunday last week, was found by police officers at Banzai Cliff on Wednesday.

The tourist from Taiwan had leg injuries and was rushed to the Commonwealth Health Center.

As of press time, the Department of Public Safety is still awaiting the details from Cheng who is still recuperating at CHC.

Ada said following the advise from Phoenix Travel on Saipan about a missing tourist, police officers launched an island wide search.

Cheng arrived on Saipan last March 5 and was scheduled to depart after two days. However, he requested to stay until March 14. On the day of his scheduled departure, he preferred to go to the airport by himself telling the agent that he wanted to take a walk before his flight.

Ada said DPS traced back his steps and used water, air and land transportation to track him down.
