file labor complaints

Complaints of non-payment of wages and overtime were lodged yesterday against C.O.L.T. International Corporation and Nelson Ong Carta in the Federal Court by two Filipino workers.

Fernando B. Ramos and Danilo Gerolao alleged in their complaints that their employers violated the Fair Labor Standards for failing to pay salaries for the services they rendered as well as overtime for the excess hours they performed,

According to the workers, the provision of living allowance was contained in their contract but was never followed and instead deductions were made which were beyond the contract terms.

Health inspection

The Bureau of Environmental Health has conducted health and sanitation inspections on May 16-22, 1999 on the following eating and drinking establishments:

Grade A: Calvary Christian Academy School Cafeteria, Chalan Kiya; Chamorro House Restaurant, Garapan; Salt & Pepper Restaurant, Garapan; Kimpachi Restaurant, Garapan; Round Two Bar, Garapan; Round Two Restaurant, Garapan; Golden Lobster Restaurant, Susupe; Aquabest Water Manufacture, Chalan Piao; Lucky Super Market Butcher Shop,
As Lito; Herman’s Modern Bakery, Airport Road ; East Karaoke, Garapan.

Grade B: Garden Guest Restaurant, (Garden Motel) Chalan Laulau; Tom’s Tofu Manufacture, Garapan; CC Club, Chalan Piao; Orchids Karaoke Night Club, Susupe; Wah Li Catering, (Suntex Garment Manufacture) Afetnas; Riviera Restaurant, Fina Sisu.

Grade C: William Reyes Elementary School Cafeteria, Chalan Kanoa; 369 Noodle House, Garapan; Onwel Garment Employee Cafeteria, Susupe.

Gun competition

The Department of Public Safety and members of the CNMI Law Enforcement community will hold today the Top Gun Competition at the Marpi Shooting Range beginning 10:00 a.m.

The competition is a fund-raising project for the benefit of the Safe and Sober Foundation.

The foundation has supported various coalitions working together for a safer Northern Marianas through the implementation of various public education programs.
