MHS gym ready for year 2000
Following the signing of Public Law 11-78 which earmarked money for the Marianas High School gymnasium, the Public School System is set to complete the long-delayed project this year.
The PSS CIP Committee is preparing to send out invitation for contractors to finish the interior of the gymnasium and other finishing requirements.
PSS architect Christopher Fryling said the roofing part is already out for bid. Together with the interior section, completion work for the gym is expected to run until six months, he said.
Following this work schedule, PSS officials are positive that the gym will finally host the graduation rites for MHS batch 1999-2000.
In 1997, the banner of MHS graduating class read “we made it but the gym didn’t”. The gym is not only long overdue but has consumed a lot of money for nothing.
According to PSS CIP Committee Chairman Anthony Pellegrino, at least $900,000 was wasted on the gymnasium because of faulty and poor construction.
Personally hand-picked by Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio as one of the few CIP priorities, the gym now stands in the same urgency with the prison facility.
