The Division of Environmental Quality will be holding a workshop on the proper design, selection, installation, and monitoring of septic systems on June 11, 1999 at the Pacific Gardenia Hotel in Chalan Kanoa.

DEQ is encouraging all engineers, architects, contractors, developers and interested homeowners to participate in the day-long training. The morning portion of the workshop will focus on how septic systems work, how they affect drinking water and marine waters and how these can be made to suit a particular site. It will also explore the options available to a developer if a system is not appropriate for a certain location.

The afternoon session will be a detailed explanation of the regulations for a septic system including: the septic tank, leaching field, and seepage pit. DEQ requirements for permit applications and construction inspections will also be discussed.

Space is limited for the workshop so please call DEQ at 664-8500 or 664-8501 for reservation. The workshop runs all day on June 11th, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The cost is $10.00.
