The Marianas Visitors Authority and the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture invite the public to attend the 1st Annual Marianas Traditional Festival on Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Kilili Beach Park.

The whole-day event will feature some of the best of the Northern Marianas’ Carolinian and Chamorros traditional performing artists. These include the Island Pride Band and Native Dancers, Talaabwog Women Stick Dancers, Original Carolinian Dancers, Mix Culture Group, Lokally, CM Serenaders Band and Dancers, Marianas Dancers and the Napun Antigo Cultural Dancers.

The dance festival is part of the MVA’s Visit the Marianas ’99 campaign which objectives are to encourage performing artists to harness their talents, attract talented individuals in the community who have not participated in the performing arts, assist in the teaching of the artform and boost the participation and formation of youth performing group.

Organizers are hoping the dance festival will evolve in the years to come to make it not just a tourist attraction but another effort in promoting performing arts in the Northern Marianas.

Aside from MVA and the Arts Council, other sponsors of the event are DFS Saipan, Ltd., Marpac, Spectrum Electric and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Food and drinks will be available. Admission is free. The public is advised to bring mats or chairs to the park for the event.

For further information, please call the Arts Council at 322-9982 or 322-9983.
