Visit the ship

Captain James E. Wise II of the USS John S. McCain announced yesterday that the ship is open for public visit today, from 9:00 AM. to 1:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The USS John S. McCain docked at the port last Saturday and will leave Saipan tomorrow morning.

The US John S. McCain is a destroyer ship equipped with the world’s most sophisticated weapon system and can operate in a high density multi-treat environment as an integral member of a carrier battle group.

Public hearing
The House Committee on Judiciary and Governmental Operations chaired by Rep. Frank Cepeda is set to conduct a public hearing on three bills tonight at 7:00 PM.
To be discussed are:

• HLI 11-7, which seeks to amend the CNMI Constitution by replacing the word “indigenous: with “Chamorro;”

• HLI 11-9, which extends the term of members of the House of Representatives from two to four years; and

• HLI 11-3, which seeks to abolish the municipal councils and establish district commissioners instead.

Rummage sale

Clothing, shoes, and other “odd and end” items will be available at Karidat’s rummage sale on June 19 from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Youth Development Programs.

Black celebration

The African-American Association will lead the National Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday at Susupe Regional Beach Park. The activities will start at 11:00 AM with food preparation, volleyball tournament, dodge ball competition, sign up team formation and other sport activities. There will be barbeque between 2:30 PM and 3 :00 PM. Each participant is urged to bring his or her own food and beverages. Speeches to commemorate the event will be delivered between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

Deadline

The Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles reminded drivers with expired license to renew their licenses.

BMV also reminded the public to comply with the mandatory liability insurance law, which requires car owners to obtain insurance coverage for their vehicles.
