Rep. David M. Apatang has urged the Department of Public Works to hasten bidding of the $1.2 million road project in his precinct after the Legislature appropriated funds from capital improvement projects.

Public Law 11-79, signed by Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio early this month, set aside the money for the Nan Ocha road improvement in San Vicente as part of the more than $24 million infrastructure plan of the government using Covenant funding.

According to Apatang, this has been long neglected despite the growing number of residents living in the area who have complained of the conditions of the road.

“I cannot overemphasize the urgency of this project. I therefore would like to request your office to expedite issuance of the (request for proposal) for the project without unnecessary delay,” he said in a letter to Public Works Sec. John Cepeda.

Apatang was among those legislators who lobbied for the inclusion of the Nan Ocha road project into the CIP master plan which will receive funding from federal construction grants once the CNMI has identified the matching requirement.
