SGMA officers visit US media groups
Officers of the Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association are visiting the editorial boards of big media organizations in the US mainland to present its business activity.
SGMA executive director Richard Pierce is attending presentation and interview meetings with editors and staff of newspapers and periodicals in New York, Washington D.C., Texas, and Seattle.
“SGMA prepared a video depicting the truth about factory conditions, the workers’ living and working conditions and the garment sector’s economic impact in the CNMI,” Pierce said in a press statement from Seattle.
“We are presenting it as an introduction to interviews aimed at getting the other side of the story out of mainland American public,” he added.
Pierce said he hopes SGMA’s efforts would counter the negative publicity about the local garment sector.
“SGMA believes that its video and our truthful and open exchange with the editorial boards more closely resemble the reality of our business than do the negatively broad brushed accounts presented by an alliance of labor union and litigators with public relations campaign,” Pierce said.
