Japanese tennis pro skips Sports Challenge
The organizing committee of the first Northern Marianas Sports Challenge yesterday said that Japan’s professional tennis player Naoko Sato will not be joining the sports activities after she tore her ligaments in her knees during a game Thursday.
According to a press release issued to the media, Sato remains in a hospital. There was no indication whether she would hold tennis clinics in the future on Saipan.
Sato is among the sports celebrities and professional athletes from Japan and the United States whom organizers have invited to participate in the Sports Challenge, which begins on Thursday.
Organizers said they have asked local coach Jeff Race and visiting pro Harrison Fields to conduct the clinics, as they advised that there would be minor changes in the tennis clinic schedule.
Tennis clinic will be held on July 8th at the American Memorial Park courts at 9:00 AM for beginners and 10:00 AM for advance players.
On July 9th at the Pacific Islands Club, tennis clinics will be conducted from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Sessions for beginners will start at 10:30 AM, followed by advance group at 11:15 AM.
Meanwhile, the organizing committee was also informed that the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, along with other sports franchise holders, have donated items to be given away and auctioned off during the week of the Northern Marianas Sports Challenge.
