The government yesterday filed drug charges against a Japanese tourist who allegedly attempted to ship into Saipan an unspecified amount of cocaine and LSD.

Makoto Ibuka was arrested at the Saipan International Airport Saturday afternoon.

A Customs officer who frisked Ibuka at the airport inspection counter discovered the illegal narcotics contained in a small plastic zip-lock bag hidden inside his pants.

Ibuka is facing charges of importation and possession of controlled substance.

Superior Court Associate Judge Timothy Bellas has set a cash bail of $20,000 for Ibuka’s temporary liberty.

The court, however, considers Ibuka a “flight risk.” (MCM)
