GDCC seeks nomination for council membership

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Governor’s Developmental Disabilities Council is seeking nominees for potential Council membership in the following categories:

• Individuals with a developmental disability;

• Parents or guardians of a child with a developmental disability;

• Immediate relatives or guardians of an adult with a developmental disability who cannot advocate for himself/herself;

• Immediate relatives or guardians of an institutionalized or previously institutionalized individual with developmental disability or an individual with a developmental disability who resides or previously resided in an institution; and

• Representatives of local agency that administers the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

The Council strives to achieve membership that represents the cultural and socio-economic diversity of the Commonwealth. All candidates for Council membership should be committed the Council’s mandates and are willing to attend four meetings per year and participate in Council standing and ad hoc committees.

The Eexecutive Committee of the Council screens out and makes recommendations to the governor the potential candidates representing person with developmental disabilities or families of children with developmental disabilities. The governor then appoints members to the Council.

Applications are available at Council’s main office in Capitol Hill, Bldg. No. 1312, Saipan. All applications will be kept for consideration when there is a vacancy.
