Tips on Computer Technology
As promised this week I will discuss the hottest Operating System technology from Apple, Mac OS 9!
** Apple Mac OS 9 **
This version of the Mac operating system has been billed “The best Internet OS ever”, and for good reason. There are more than 50 new features that will make your internet and computing experience better than and more exciting then it has ever been! Apple has been very hard at work in Cupertino to get the latest version of their operating system into the hands of their loyal users.
Mac OS 9 features the debut of Sherlock 2, now the ultimate easy to use search engine. Search for news and people on the Web plus the perfect personal shopper on the Internet, letting users find products, compare prices, pinpoint availability and even participate in auctions. All this and more in an easy to use interface that is clear and consise.
3Mac OS 9 is the best Internet OS ever,2 said Steve Jobs, Apple1s interim CEO. 3Sherlock 2 is a groundbreaking way to search and shop on the Internet.2
** Sherlock 2, the ultimate search engine for news and people on the Web, is also now the perfect personal shopper on the Internet. Sherlock 2 features 3channels2 that provide tailored lists of search targets, such as 3news,2 3people,2 3shopping,2 etc. Users can create their own custom channels as well. The Shopping channel lets users search for merchandise across multiple sources at once (for example: Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, eBay and eToys) comparing products, prices and availability from all sources in one convenient window.
** Multiple users can now share one Macintosh while protecting their private files and maintaining all their Internet settings, system and application preferences.
** Voiceprint Password allows users to log onto their Mac simply by speaking a pass phrase. This really cool… It is very accurate as well. We tried having 15 people say the correct phrase and access was denied. We had the right person say the wrong phrase and again access was denied. Only when the right person said the correct phrase was access granted. This test was conducted on a Powerbook and iMac using the built in microphone, very nice….
** The Keychain manages each user1s multiple IDs and passwords and stores them securely. When users log in, they automatically gain access to those password-protected sites and accounts without having to re-type individual passwords.
** Auto Updating allows users to automatically update their software over the Internet with the latest software and performance enhancements from Apple.
** Encryption uses industrial-strength cryptography to easily password-protect files so they can be securely stored on a computer or sent across the Internet. If you are concerned about who reads your files, then this is for you…
** File Sharing over the Internet lets users turn their Macs into Internet file servers so they can share files or folders with other users as easily as dragging and dropping. It is almost like being right there sitting in front of your computer.
** Internet AppleScript® enables customers to automate tasks from the most simple to the most complex, involving a single computer or many Macs working in parallel across the Internet. Now even you you never thought you were a programmer, you can use the english like Applescript to create and automate projects to your hearts content, locally and worldwide on the internet.
** Now with the Network Browser finding file servers, FTP servers, and web servers is as easy as selecting a local printer, in small workgroups or the largest organizations.
** Mac OS 9 is optimized to take advantage of the incredible performance of the new Power Mac G4 with Velocity Engine.
These are just some of the many new and updated features in the new Mac OS 9. Mac OS 9 also includes an updated Quicktime 4, colorsync, system sounds and system fonts.
Mac OS 9 is a must have Operating System. You can now get rid of all those third party security applications you may have been fusing with, including access control and file encryption applications. It is now all built into the operating system, Mac OS 9!!!
Minimum requirements to run Mac OS 9 are an Apple PowerPC-based computer and 32MB of physical RAM with virtual memory turned on. I recommend at least 64MB or as much as you can install. The more ram you can put into your computer the more efficient your operations can be. If you can run Mac OS 8.5 or 8.6 you can probably run Mac OS 9.
If you would like to see Mac OS 9 in operation, see the good folks at Marianas Electronics-Saipan. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
