Koblerville housing project will be a model subdivision
The Northern Marianas Housing Corp.’s new homestead project in Koblerville will be a model subdivision on Saipan, according to Marylou Sirok-Ada, executive director of the Commonwealth Development Authority.
Ada said the government has flashed the green light for the contractor to start the construction work.
The housing project, which will benefit 45 families, is expected to be completed next year, Ada said.
Unlike the existing homesteads built in the past, Ada said the Koblerville project includes basic infrastructure that will provide convenience to homeowners.
“It will have paved roads and not coral roads like what other housing subdivisions have. It will be complete with power, water, sewer system, recreational facilities, and a community center where people can get together for barbecue,” Ada said.
“This will be an ideal neighborhood. When it’s finished, this homestead will be the model for future housing development in the CNMI,” Ada said.
Ada said owners of the house and lots in the new homestead area will be asked to sign the Restriction Covenant, which sets the prescriptions and prohibitions related to their stay in the area.
“The homeowners will be required to keep their houses and yards clean. They won’t be allowed to raise livestock or any animals in the area,” Ada said.
The subdivision will also have a common theme, as well as prescribed housing designs and paint colors.
“We have asked the recipients to choose from a catalog which type of house they want to have so that the contractor would know what to build on certain lots,” Ada said.
Recipients of the housing benefits were chosen based on a lottery system.
“We didn’t want to be accused of favoring our relatives or friends, that’s why we did it through lottery,” Ada said. (Mar-Vic Cagurangan)
