Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio on Friday signed a proclamation declaring Nov. 8-14 as Veterans Week in the CNMI to honor men and women whom he said have “served and sacrificed to keep us free” in the past several years.

“They are America’s Veterans but, as we approach the end of the old century and the beginning of the new, we describe them as America’s twentieth century heroes,” he said in his proclamation.

Over 25 million living veterans throughout the nation — half of the number of people who served in the U.S. armed forces — are still alive today to witness their efforts that have helped the country become a world leader, according to the governor.

“Through the turmoil and change of the Twentieth Century, one thing has remained constant — the dedication and commitment of our veterans to the survival and strength of this nation,” said Tenorio.

He urged citizens and different local organizations to observe the week of Nov. 8-14 with appropriate ceremonies and activities to honor the veterans.
