Senate Floor Leader Pete P. Reyes has expressed concern on the paving being undertaken by the Department of Public Works along the major road in Capitol Hills, saying such project should be done on several secondary roads on the island.

He said he had received numerous calls from his constituents, questioning the asphalt paved last week on top of the cemented road that is largely in good condition.

While acknowledging the authority of the executive branch to embark on such projects, Reyes said the administration should have considered first the bad state of most secondary roads.

“It would have paved an entire secondary road that will benefit more residents and lead to substantial savings to the government in terms of repairs being done by public works and the municipal government,” said the senator.

According to DPW, the project on the zigzag road leading up to Capitol Hills was intended to install non-skid measures for motorists’ safety. It was not known how much the department spent for the paving.

Lawmakers have in the past attempted to set aside funding for paving and improvement of secondary road, but the administration has been turning them down due to limited financial resources.
