Teno proclaims Nurses Week

Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio yesterday proclaimed the week of November 21-27 as CNMI Nurses Week in recognition of the “innumerable contributions and dedicated services” provided by the nurses employed throughout the Commonwealth.

In a brief ceremony held at the Governor’s Conference Room on Capitol Hill attended by several nurses, the governor praised the nurses for their hard work and dedication in their jobs assisting patients at hospitals 24 hours a day.

“Adequate health care is both a basic human right and a personal responsibility,” the proclamation reads. “The health care delivery system of the Commonwealth is highly dependent on the quality of nursing care available to patients.”

According to Rosa M. Tudela, Public Health/CNMI Nursing Association head, the association has a week-long schedule of activities during November 21-27, which include mass for nurses at Kristo Rai Church in Garapan on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

From Monday to Friday (Nov. 22-26), the nurses will visit several schools. on Saipan, including Marianas High School, Grace Christian Academy, Marianas Baptist Academy and Hopwood Jr. High School.

Debbie Raumakita, a registered nurse and an instructor at the Northern Marianas College of Nursing, will talk about the “Legal Aspects in Nursing” at the Continuing Education Room on Monday (Nov. 22) at 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, (Nov. 23) at the same place. Second-year nursing student Myung Sook Yung will talk about battered women afterwards. On Friday (Nov. 26), Alice King, another registered nurse, will discuss psychological aspects in general nursing care.”

The governor urged everyone to recognize the contributions and dedicated services of the nurses during that week. Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan also attended the proclamation signing. This year’s theme is “Marketing Nursing in the CNMI in the Year 2000.”
