The angry, frothy mob

The World Trade Organization protests in Seattle reveal the true sinister character of our enemies. We are dealing with ruthless and fanatical thugs–with lawbreakers, vandals and radical political activists who have but one mission in mind: to obstruct the world’s upward progress, development and prosperity.

The Seattle mob embody a vicious hatred for freedom, capitalism, and opportunity. They are the enemies of the CNMI and the United States. They are the highly partisan members of Global Exchange, the Global Survival Network, and the “Radical Action Insurgency Network.” They are the friends of the protectionist labor unions. They are the socialists and the statists–the reactionaries who live in constant and perpetual fear of the future.

They claim to stand for human rights and the rule of law. Yet they callously disregard the law by creating anarchy and chaos on the streets of Seattle. They further want to physically obstruct and intimidate W.T.O. delegates from freely assembling.

These hoodlums want to stifle discussion and debate. They want to riot and disrupt the city of Seattle. They want to deface private property with spray paint and damage Nike, McDonald’s, and The Gap. They have absolutely no respect for private property rights–and yet they profess to embrace human rights.

Individuals have the right to keep what they earn. They also have the right to meet with other people and have a frank discussion of vital economic issues. But these protesters want to violate these rights and restrict freedom of speech.

They claim to represent the working man. Yet they want to prevent the working men and women of the world from freely selling their goods and services across borders without penalty. They want to keep the rest of the world down–in poverty–by perversely upholding their “human rights”.

They claim to stand for the United States labor movement. Yet the American labor force is presently enjoying the greatest period of American prosperity–as well as one of the lowest unemployment rates (4.1 percent) in recent history. (Thanks to free trade.)

If these W.T.O. protesters can threaten, harass and intimidate delegates, if they can deliberately damage private property, they surely are capable of distorting the truth as well. They are capable of lying about labor and human rights conditions in the CNMI.

These are the fanatics who oppose us. They are now showing their true character in Seattle, for all of the world to see. What an embarrassment to America–the land of the free.
