GTE Pacifica 91, Sunrisers 88, OT
GTE Pacifica handed San Vicente Sunrisers their first loss of the season with a 91-88 victory in overtime Monday night at Ada Gym.
GTE Pacifica was ahead by 12 points going into the second half, however with coach Jack Tudela’s pressure defense, Sunrisers came back to tie the lead of GTE. at 78-78
With three seconds remaining in regulation, Sunriser’s Jason Fransworth converted a jumpshot to give Sunrisers a 2-point lead.
Ed Cosino, however, played the spoiler role for the Sunrisers victory as he sank a buzzer beater to send the game into overtime with one second remaining at 80-80 all.
Going into overtime, Felix Palacios made the first basket with an assist coming from Frank Iglecias to give GTE the lead. Sunrisers had the chance to win the game but they missed the crucial bonus shots on the foul line.
With Oscar Masga and Jawn Joyner fouling, GTE Pacifica took advantage in the low post with Aloy Torreon getting the foul. Torreon sank both crucial free throws to give GTE the lead and the victory.
Mark Wallace had 21 points, backed up by Aloy Torreon with 20 points, two assists, 14 rebounds, and a steal. Ed Cosino had one assist, three block shots, and 13 rebounds.
George Masga had 19 points, followed by Jawn Joyner with 17 points, five block shots, eight rebounds, four steals while Jason Fransworth had three assists, five rebounds, and three steals in a losing cause.
It was a close game between Brothers and Get Covered in the second game in the beginning 10 minutes of the first half. However, the Brothers ran away with the win and remains to be the only undefeated team in the BANMI Men’s lslandwide Basketball League.
Ed Diaz had 29 points, two assists, nine rebounds, four steals, and four 3-pointers, while Steve Rasa contributed 19 points, one assist, 12 rebounds, two steals, and sank two 3-pointer. John Acosta had 19 points, one block shot, four rebounds, five steals, three 3-pointers. Tim Wesley had 16 points, one assist, one block shot, grabbed seven rebounds, and three steals.
