HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Commerce Department’s Census Bureau has released 1999 population estimates for the major U.S. insular areas in the Pacific, including American Samoa, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The estimates as of July 1, 1999, which show modest growth over the previous year, are: American Samoa – 63,781, Guam – 151,968, and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands – 69,216.

The Census Bureau’s estimates are based on the latest available data on births, deaths, and net migration (immigration minus emigration). (Hulsen)
