Organizers gear up for PREL conference

Educators from the Pacific region and around the world are currently making their plans to attend the 17th Annual Pacific Education Conference from July 24 to July 28, 2000 to be held in Koror, Palau.

Educators from the Pacific region and around the world are currently making their plans to attend the 17th Annual Pacific Education Conference from July 24 to July 28, 2000 to be held in Koror, Palau.

With the theme “Pacific Conference: Lifelong Learner”, organizers hope to attract over 1,000 participants in the annual meeting, co-sponsored by PREL, Palau’s Ministry of Education and Palau Community College.

Each year, Pacific educators lead the majority of conference workshops, and this year, attendees have over 100 different workshops to choose from. Fort he sixth time, the Close Up Foundation will host a student forum to give the Pacific youths the opportunity to participate in conference activities and other educational experiences.

PREL President and CEO John Kofel said, “The PEC annual conference is an opportunity for Pacific educators to gather and enjoy each other’s knowledge and cultures. Our common goal is to improve educational opportunities for all children throughout the Pacific.”

Delegates from American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated State of Micronesia (Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Yap), Guam, Hawaii, the Republic of Marshall Islands, Palau, and other Pacific islands are expected to participate in the four-day meeting.
