RESULTS OF THE 19TH ANNUAL DFS MICRONESIAN TENNIS
In the boy’s 18 & under doubles final, Hee Seung Kim and his partner Daniel Son won 6-1, 6-1 over Gerald Boyer and Tim Quan. Devin Yoshimoto and Nicolas Son beat Keith Gabaldon and Gaku Matsumura 6-3, 6-3 in the boy’s 12 & under doubles final. In the girl’s 12 & under doubles final Rika Matsumoto and Rena Dador defeated Noelle Calvo and Mayuko Arriola 7-5, 7-6.
In the women’s division, Merle Hudkins continued her fine play with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Nelia Luna in 3.0 singles. In the 4.0 singles Roselyn Defino defeated Young Son 7-6, 7-5. In the open category, Kana Aikawa won the championship over Lucita Pusana and Hannah Borja.
In men’s play, the 3.0 champion was Jun Tuazon over Kana Aikawa in a thrilling three-set match 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. In the 4.0 category, Gabriel Boyer continued his dominance with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Lawrence De Vega in the finals. In the men’s 4.0 & over category, Ely Buenaventura played a strong match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Daniel Stern.
In the match of the tournament, home town favorite Jeff Race defeated Toby Evans of PIC 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 in a grueling three-set men’s open final under the blistering sun.
