Mobil Oil Micronesia Co-Ed Basketball League

The Mobil Oil Co-Ed Basketball League kicked off their regular season Tuesday night at the NMC Basketball Court. A total of seven teams are participating in this event and they are as follows: PDI, Tan Holdings, Aqua Resort, Microl Corporation, C.U.C., Mobil & Hyatt Regency Saipan.
Introduction of teams kicked off at 6:30 p.m. and followed by the first game between Mobil and CUC.
“This is the time that we had organized a co-ed basketball league,” according to league coordinator Abner Venus. Mobil Oil provided the team uniforms and there was no entrance fee. In order to participate in the league, one must be a customer of Mobil Oil and only employees are allowed to play, added Mr. Venus.
Game Results:
1st game: Mobil 68, CUC 62
The first game of the 1st Mobil Co-Ed Basketball League was a good one. Mobil earned their first victory with a 68-62 win over CUC. Junan Gujab scored 22 points to lead his team while teammate Danny Iuami contributed 16 points.
George Poquiz pumped in 25 points to lead CUC. Henry Pondang helped out 15 points for CUC. Although CUC lost the game the biggest play of the game came from CUC lady player Luvita Reyes, who sank a 15-footer and this almost brought down the house with a lot of cheering coming from the spectators.
2nd game: Hyatt 106, PDI 34
Hyatt Regency earned their first victory of the season with a 106-34 trashing of PDI in the second game of the opening day. Alfonso Masga led his team with 24 points followed by teammate Scott Back with 13 points. The speedy and young team of Hyatt was just too much for PDI.
PDI had 14 points coming from E. Yalung and followed by L. Romolor with 5 points in a losing cause.
Hyatt lady player Pola Franz made 4 points and this also almost brought the house down. The NMC Gym was packed with spectators who were eager to witness the first Mobil Co-Ed Business Basketball League.
Games are every Tuesdays at the NMC Gym starting at 6:30 p.m. for the first game and followed by the second game at 8:00 p.m. Next game schedule: October 3, 2000 1st Game: Tan Holdings vs. PDI; 2nd Game: Toyota vs. Aqua Resort.
