“Education opens the door of dreams and life.” So reads the winning theme for this year’s Education Month, composed by Dandan Elementary School 6th grader Brian Camacho.

Like other students, the young Mr. Camacho believes education is the main ingredient that would empower him to walk along the well-trodden path of success in any field he aspires for.

With the whole CNMI community, the Public School System joins Mr. Camacho and all other students like him in this pursuit, especially in the month of November which has been proclaimed as Education Month.

Education Commissioner Rita H. Inos, during yesterday’s proclamation signing, urged educators, students, and parents to capitalize on this month-long celebration to develop closer links with the rest of the community for further improvement of CNMI’s education system.

This, after she stressed the value of public education, serving close to 10,000 Northern Marianas students for free.

“The proclamation is only the beginning. It always speaks of the value of education and we appreciate the opportunity and the privilege to provide education that is free and for the public,” said Dr. Inos.

Activities in line for this month include the traditional essay and poster-making contests for students in all grade levels and the search for the CNMI’s teacher of the year.

The most-awaited gathering is held near the month’s end, as PSS teachers and staff get together at Garapan Elementary School to recognize outstanding employees of the year.

Governor Pedro P. Tenorio signed yesterday a proclamation endorsing November as Education Month, acknowledging that it is through education that CNMI’s people and leaders are built.

He added that the period of time should be dedicated to recognize all those who have contributed to the development of the local educational system, to increase public awareness of the role of education in society, and to promote a stronger partnership between educators and the community at large.

The governor also recognized education sector’s continued improvements and the great strides it has constantly employed in efforts to advance the learning of CNMI children.

In celebration of Education Month, programs and activities that strengthen the morale of educators and individuals involved in the education system will be highlighted. Other activities that would provide the opportunity for professional development demonstrations in the different knowledge or skills areas for PSS staff and faculty members will also be tackled.

Furthermore, the month-long affair is also eyed to promote the sharing or network of ideas, methods and experiences among educators and those concerned with education.
