Hopwood Junior High School defeated Rota 16-14, 15-9 over the weekend to win the championship title in an inter-scholastic volleyball tournament.

The first game was a nail bitter with Rota having many chances to put the game away. Hopwood’s girls, however, dug down deep and puled off the victory 16-14 and needing to win just one more game for the CNMI junior high school girls Volleyball championship. In the second game Hopwood showed their poise and teamwork winning the championship by the score of 15-9.

Hopwood was also recognized with a trophy for having the best team sportsmanship. Laurie Ogumoro was named Most Valuable Player.

Prior to the match, Hopwood faced Tinian Junior High and defeated them 15-8, 15-2 Friday evening. Arcy Moncrief put up some spectacular sets that Laurie Ogumoro and Rosemarie Elameto pounded to the other side of the court.

Saturday they played Tinian again, winning by the scores of 15-4, 15-7 with some help from Rowena Somol’s amazing serves. This advanced Hopwood into the championship match against Rota.
