Gun shooting resorts down
Dear Editor,
This is to thank Governor Pedro P. Tenorio for vetoing HB 12-212 “The Shooting Resort Legislation” and at the same time appeal to the 12th CNMI Legislature to abandon its plan for an override.
I understand that this “almost dead” piece of legislation would have infused millions of invested dollars into our economy, however, in a agreement with the Governor the safety of the public precedes the “positives” this commercial endeavor has to offer.
As such, the Governor made the right decision in rejecting HB 12-212. Moreover, I strongly urge the members of the Twelfth Northern Marianas Islands Commonwealth Legislature to refrain from initiating an override. It is the only sensible thing to do considering the public does not want this type of business sprouting around our islands.
The reason is simple and that is even with the current gun legislation statute which is stricter, we still witness gun-related crimes occurring in the Commonwealth. Hence, I ask that the members of the 12th follow in the great example our good Governor has set by putting this issue to rest, unless of course they consider the safety of their constituents to be secondary!
