Hydroponics workshop set
The Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Service (NMC-CREES), the Department of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Commonwealth Development Authority are sponsoring the first 2001 Hydroponics Workshop.
Hydroponics is a form of agriculture that involves growing without the use of soil, or simply put, soil-less farming.
The benefits of a hydroponics system are: the ability to control the environment that plants are growing in; improved efficiency for higher yields; and it is an excellent method for the limited space farming conditions in the CNMI.
A certified U.S. Hydroponics specialist will train the workshop participants in everything one needs to know about hydroponics.
For example: 1) the basic principles of hydroponics and operation of a hydroponics system; 2) how to start up your own hydroponics system; 3) the general business opportunities involved using hydroponics; 4) the numerous benefits of hydroponics, and many more.
The workshop is open to the general public and to anyone interested in starting a hydroponics business. In order to have the workshop, there must be a minimum number of registered participants. The workshop schedule will be determined in February. Registration will take place from Jan. 15 to Jan. 19.
To register contact: Dr. Jack Tenorio or Stan Villagomez at DLNR at 322-9830 and 256-3319 respectively, or Anthony Benavente or David Attao at NMC-CREES at 234-5498, extensions 1709 and 1700 by Jan. 19, 2001.
